Following her usual routine, Louise came in from school and dumped her bag onto the sitting room floor before collapsing into a chair. Another tiresome day at school. What she wouldn’t give to be somewhere else. “Thank goodness for Saturdays” she muttered, switching the television onto a program she enjoyed. Louise spent most of that night watching TV before heading into bed in the early hours of the morning.
Lazily heading towards her room (she practically dragged herself up the stairs) she swung the door open and headed to the wardrobe, which a mirror hung there by a hook. Straight brown hair hung around a pale face, blue eyes staring out with a slight twinkle in them. She looked older than she was (she was currently fifteen), her tall and thin stature were the main reason behind this. With a sigh, Louise turned away from the mirror and began to get changed into her comfortable pyjamas, which lay sprawled out across the bed covers.
Tap. Tap. Tap-tap. What was that noise? She wondered, opening her eyes and groaning. By the orange light that was sliding through her curtains it looked about day break. “Whozat?” she yelled, thinking it was her Mother banging on her door. Evidently not. “Well, I’m already up” she thought, going to open her curtains. What met her sight made her jump back at least three feet. There was a beautiful brown tawny own pecking at her window, a piece of bright white paper attached to its leg. What did it want? Louise opened the window and in flew the great bird, landing majestically on her bed and holding out the leg to which the paper was fastened to. A little scared, but nonetheless compelled towards this bird she reached out carefully and took the paper from it. The paper was an envelope, but it was made out of a thick paper like that of the olden days. Parchment. It had her full name on, there was no mistake so she turned the envelope over and noticed the red wax stamp. ‘Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry’ it read-Louise almost scoffed. There was a school for this stuff? She read the letter anyway, and was shocked with its content. Her parents had registered her at the school since birth. All she found out was that her father was a wizard, her mother was a witch and they had chosen for so long but used no magic in the home. All the things that happened that were not her fault and she did not know how it had happened, that was the magic. As you can expect, receiving all of this information from someone she had always thought just to be normal, shocked her and she collapsed on the floor.
Awaking a few minutes later, she read the parchment that was attached to the letter. Supplies. Where on earth would she get all of this? A wand? “Yeah, you’d find that on your nearest corner shop wouldn’t you?” she muttered bitterly. Why had she not been told before now? There was a lot she couldn’t understand, and she ran downstairs and handed the letter straight to her Mother who read it with a blank expression. “I thought this would be coming soon” her mother said, smiling.
It was a month after she had received her letter, and no more had been revealed apart from where she would be able to buy a wand and cauldron and all those other odd things. A week after she had got the letter, her parents took her to London by train to get her things. They walked past an old tatty looking pub, but to her amazement her parents walked straight into it, with Louise following close behind. They entered the pub, walked straight through to the back alley then walked straight up to the wall. “Erm…” she began, but soon stopped as her father pulled out her wand and tapped stones on the wall. Louise couldn’t help but gasp as the wall moved to make way for an archway, which marked the entrance of a cobbled street. Shops lined the street and she followed her parents along.
The first of September loomed closer and closer, and on the day she travelled with her Mother and Father down to the Kings Cross Station to which her train to Hogwarts departed from. Thoughts ran through her head, what if everyone was better than her? Yeah, she’d read a couple of books but that was nothing. Looking around for this platform she was meant to be leaving from she couldn’t find it. The answer came when her Mother walked straight at a wall and went through it.
The train stood puffing out smoke, and she just walked straight on not wanting to wait around. Taking an empty compartment at the back of the train, she sat still staring out of the window. She was entering a world she knew nothing about, her Grandmother changed the topic whenever she asked about magic and being a witch, she thought she knew about her past, but it turns out, she knew nothing. She had received some odd looks off people, who turned to whisper but knowing that was what school kid did, she ignored it. The kids were being shunned onto the train by scared looking parents, and it was only Louise who remained calm and in an ignorant bliss to what was going on. They were frightened of something or someone, and they had a good reason to be. |

A usual Saturday morning consisted of Amy staying snuggled up in her four-poster bed till midday, but today she was up as the cockerel crowed for dawn. She sat on her windowsill staring out over the rose garden and across splashing waves on the cliffs, she stared at the sea till it disapeared. She stared for about five minutes before being suddenly interrupted by a knock on her bedroom door. She quickly jumped off the windowsill and ran to the door. She slowly opened it, just gently peeking around the edge. She looked up at three smiling faces. One was her father, Bill, another was her mother, Fleur. The final was her older sister Victoire. Her father was holding a birthday cake with eleven candles in while her mother held her presents and a small parchment envelope with emerald writing. The only thing Victoire baired was a hearty smile, she burst through the door and gave Amy a big hug. They both burst into a chorus of happy birthday. As this was a special birthday, the candles had been enchanted, the flames danced to the chorus and periodically changed colour yet never seemed to melt the candles. She had always known magic existed but her parents were always reluctant to use it around her. Her mother handed her the first present; it was small but rather heavy. She carefully unwrapped it. It was rough, cold and hard. She produced a book from within the confines of the paper ‘Hogwarts A History’. She screamed with joy as she picked the book up to find a small letter nestled in its pages with a ruby seal upon the back. She did not even have to open she knew what this was. This was a letter, but not just any letter; this was the letter all magical children sat by the front door to receive.
She slowly, more from apprehension than care, broke the seal of the envelope and procured a sheet of folded parchment with emerald writing upon it. It read.
HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY
Headmaster: Teddy Lupin
(Order of Merlin, second class)
Dear Miss Weasley,
We are pleased to inform you that you have a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment.
Term begins on 1 September. We await your owl by no later than 31 July.
Yours Sincerely,
Elowan Signet.
Deputy Headmistress.
After reading the letter several times over, Amy ran to her desk and grabbed a piece of parchment. She grabbed a quill and the nearest bottle of ink she could find, she then started her reply. Bill then gently grabbed her hand and said, “No need child, we’ve already replied, so Lupin would have received your reply this morning!” Amy gave a jump for joy, knocking her bottle of ink all over her desk. The bottle gave an almighty crash as it smashed on her bedroom floor. She looked down, and then looked up whilst giving a cheeky smile. Fleur raised her wand and said “Scourgify,” suddenly the jar reappeared on Amy’s desk, good as new and the ink stain had vanished.
After helping make breakfast, Fleur told Amy to run upstairs and get ready as they were taking her to a place called Diagon Alley to buy her school supplies. She smiled and quickly ran upstairs to change out of her pyjamas. Once changed, she grabbed her hairbrush and ran back down to the kitchen. Whilst brushing her hair, Bill grabbed a pot of ugly green powder. He told Amy to stand near the fire, as she walked up to it he threw a handful of green powder into the flames of the brightly lit fireplace. Fleur told her to stand in the flame and say Diagon Ally very clearly. As Amy did this she felt a tug behind her stomach, next thing she knew she was standing in the middle of a bustling bookshop. Her parents who were now wearing long billowing cloaks closely followed her. Bill ushered Amy into the Hogwarts first year section. There many fascinating books covered in many weird and wonderful materials. Bill picked up eight books from different shelves, each more different from the other. They slowly made their way to the desk at the front of the shop and paid for the books in Galleons, Sickles and Knuts. Fleur departed from the shop first, closely followed by Bill and Amy. They crossed the cobbled street and entered a shop that was cluttered, with many unorganized boxes. It was called Ollivanders. This would be where Amy would get her first ever wand. Ollivander came out from behind a shelf, which startled Amy so. During a 15-minute period Amy tried many wands, personally chosen by Ollivander himself. None of them seemed right until he handed her a 17-inch Holly wand, with unicorn hair. She gave the wand a gentle flick and a gold spark shot from the end of it. A glowing smile suddenly leaped across Amys face as her parents paid for the wand. Many more shops were visited during the day to gather her school equipment, by this point everyone in Diagon ally had become wary. As any shops were now closing, Bill thought it was a good idea to call it a day. As Flourish and Blotts (the bustling bookshop) was now closing, The Weasleys walked to the opposite end of Diagon ally to a stone archway. They walked through the arch and into what looked like a grimy old pub. Bill walked over to a fireplace and took an emerald silk bag out of his jacket pocket (which was under his, no longer billowing, cloak). He opened the bag and grasped a handful of green powder and once again through it into the fire. He beckoned Amy And Fleur into the fire and, in his articulate tone, said The Burrow. Amy felt another tug behind her stomach and her vision went fuzzy. As she regained her sense of surrounding she found herself back at the burrow. She collapsed onto a comfortable armchair as her parents started storing her school stuff in the cupboard under the stairs. She looked at the clock, which read half past nine, she yawned and slowly rose from the chair. She went over to her parents, kissed them on the cheek and wished them good night. She then dragged herself up the stairs and collapsed on her bed.
The next day she was awake for the cockerel crow at dawn, she was once again staring out the window at the waves that ended at the horizon. Today was Sunday, the day before Monday, which coincidently was the day before the first of September. All of Sunday was spent cleaning her room and preparing for the months she would be away at Hogwarts. By Nine Thirty she was prepared for her long train journey. Her large trunk was packed with her robes, clothes, books and equipment. It lay at the bottom of her bed ready to be hauled to London’s Central Station. Amy lay on her bed, thinking of what lay ahead of her the next day. This would be the first time she had been away from her parents for a lengthy time. Whilst thinking of all the positives and negatives of being sent to Hogwarts, she drifted into a deep sleep. Monday morning came as fast as lightning and before she knew it; Amy had been woken by her mother with a breakfast tray. All these questions were being fired in Amy’s direction and she didn’t like it. “Have you got your wand?” and “Have you got all your spell books?” and “Have you got enough underwear?” All of these questions were overwhelming as Amy tried to swallow her bacon and eggs. Once finished her breakfast, Amy got washed and changed into her clothes. Bill carried her trunk downstairs and into the families Blue Ford Anglia. Amy had heard off her mother that this car had been passed own from Weasley generation to Weasley generation. Whether this was true, she didn’t really know. Why would anyone want an old car? As Amy climbed in she could sense something different about he car but she didn’t know what. The journey to London didn’t take that long, but the journey was new to Amy, who spent most of the journey staring out the window at the unfamiliar scenery. Once at the station Amy felt nervous, the butterflies in her stomach had grown into mutant moths by the time she reached platform eight. She got her ticket out of her pocket and looked at the platform number. “Since when has there been a platform 9 ¾?” She asked herself. Her question was soon to be answered. She looked up and saw two signs, one saying platform nine and one saying platform ten. The nest thing she knew she was being pulled towards a brick wall in between these two signs. A strike of fear hit her as she gained speed and became closer to the wall. She shut her eyes and hoped for the best. Whilst cringing she didn’t notice that the entire family had just walked through a wall, she was know standing on platform 9 ¾. She was looking up at a magnificent ruby steam engine with a sign, which said Hogwarts Express. “Wow!” Amy said in a hushed tone. As the porters came to collect luggage Amy saw someone get onto the train who she recognized from somewhere, she couldn’t pin point where from but she was sure it would come to her. Amy turned to see her mother in tears. Amy ran over and gave her a massive hug, promising she’d keep safe. She gave both her parents a kiss on the cheek and then skipped off to get onto the train. As the clock struck eleven o clock, the train slowly chugged off into the distance, leaving the parents far behind. Amy stood at the window until she could no longer see her parents standing on the platform. She walked down the bustling corridor looking for an empty compartment. Further down the carriage she found a compartment with a lone girl sitting in it. This girl looked familiar, so Amy knocked on the door and asked if it was possible to sit with her. The girl smiled and gestured towards the seat. Amy sat down thankful that the girl had agreed. Amy smiled at the girl as she sat down, then she suddenly realized who this girl was. “Hey aren’t you Harry Potters daughter? Yeah I recognize you! My uncle and your dad were best friends when they were in Hogwarts.” The girl smiled and nodded as though Amy knew more then she did. “don’t you know about your heritage? Well I’ve never met someone going to a magic school who didn’t know about magic, this is strange. Do you want me to tell you the story? Everyone knows it!” As the girl nodded, Amy began her story. _________________ * AmiiCate ;;

Louise couldn’t help but look bewildered as this girl she had never met before firstly recognised her, then had actually asked to sit in the compartment with her, when clearly there were free compartments. As the girl spoke, she gradually became more curious and anxious to hear the story that was going to be told. She listened intently to the girl whose name she had not yet been told;
“There was once a dark wizard. Voldemort was his name, and around twenty years people even feared his name. He was barely human, having separated himself into various objects to ensure that he was always alive even when one part was killed. He killed people who betrayed him; he killed people who wouldn’t join his dark forces all with one curse. The unforgivable killing curse. One day Voldemort came to your grandparent’s house. Lily and James (your grandparents) had refused to join Voldemort, and had instead tried with other people to thwart him and put an end to his terrorising reign. They were to be targeted, and Dumbledore (the only wizard that Voldemort was ever afraid of) knew this so put a protection spell upon their house. One of James’ best friends betrayed your father and told Voldemort where to find him. He found your grandparents all right, and killed them. Your mother sacrificed her life for yours, which saved Harry Potter. Your Dad is the only one alive who has ever survived the killing curse-the curse backfired and Voldemort disappeared.
“Harry Potter was always the best at Defence Against The Dark Arts at school according to my Uncle who was Harry’s best friend, and he had stopped Voldemort coming back into power but when he was around fourteen he came back. His reign began once again on the wizarding community. They aimed to get a prophecy, which told Voldemort of his connection with Harry Potter yet failed to get it thanks to your father and the Order Of The Phoenix. A year later, they invaded Hogwarts and a teacher at Hogwarts who Dumbledore had trusted to come out of his death eater ways, killed the only one that Voldemort feared Harry Potter, teachers and other members of the school managed to stop the other Death Eaters from taking the castle. It was a narrow escape. Hogwarts did carry on, against the Ministry Of Magic’s’ wishes.
“Voldemort gained more followers, and his most loyal was a woman called Bellatrix Lestrange. She had a son, with another death eater but Harry Potter who sought his revenge for killing his Godfather Sirius Black shortly killed her. There was an almighty battle, and the Order of the Phoenix (a group of people who were against Voldemort) lost people and so did Voldemort”.
“Bellatrix’s son was left with no parents, and Voldemort took him in and began to train him as his own succeedor in case something failed and he was killed. Soon none other than Harry Potter killed Voldemort. Voldemort died the exact moment that you were born. In the magic community, it is believed that you being born weakened Voldemort so that your father could kill him. Everyone believes that there is a connection. A connection that ties you in with Voldemort’s adopted son. His son was trained well, and soon became fiercer and darker than any other wizard or witch that has ever been born. We do not speak his name, for fear of it. People are frightened of him, he has more followers than ever, not only witches and wizards but trolls, werewolves, giants, dementors and dark magical creatures beyond your imagination.”
She almost felt like laughing, how could any of this happen without her knowing it? If her father was this hero, why hadn’t she heard it all before? Why hadn’t she seen magic, or done any of these things? It was hard for her to come to terms with what she had just been told; it brought a tear to her eye, which she quickly wiped away. Rather than saying anything, she stared out of the window for what seemed like an age. Rural countryside passed the windows with some speed and the sun was surfacing beneath cornfields in the distance.
Standing up and reaching into her trunk she quickly withdrew her hand as she cut it on the wood shelf. Blood was dripped with ease from her finger. Reaching for her 21” willow phoenix feather wand she tapped the cut and muttered “Episkey”. Her father had forced to her buy and read a book on useful spells. This was the easiest and the first one she had read about, and after reading the technique over and over this was the first time she had used it-and to her utter amazement it had worked. The cut healed itself over. “Woh” she gasped in awe. That was the first magic she had ever seen. Louise reached into her trunk and pulled out what she was looking for, it was the book which had come in useful already. As she picked the book up something fell out. Louise picked it up and opened the parchment.
‘No doubt that by now, someone has told you my story Louise but I know there is a lot of unanswered questions that you wish to be answered. You’re mind works in similar ways to mine, so I know how angry you are at me. We never used magic when we were around you (your mother, Luna Lovegood is also a witch and is quite well known as she helped me defeat Voldemort one year at Hogwarts) because as long as you knew that magic did not exist and you did not know it, you were safe from the man that no doubt you would have not heard his name but of him. I am not afraid to speak his name. Bellatrix did indeed name her child Tamesis Lestrange, to which unlike Voldemort, he is referred to as a sign of respect to his Mother who he admired although dead.
I can imagine right now that you somewhat feel alien towards me, as I did not tell you anything. This was a mistake I realise now but I did not want you living a life of fear until you received your letter at eleven. I feared that you would not wish to know or learn magic so I kept you in the dark. We did not use magic at home, however my job is not a policeman as you thought but I am an Auror-a wizard who catches dark witches and wizards. Your mother has taken on her father’s job as an editor to The Quibbler, a magazine that I made popular in my youth. She is also a member of the Order of the Phoenix, which I assume has been explained to you.
The headmaster of this school is a great man; Lupin is my godson and his father was one of your grandfathers best friends and he became mine when he taught at school for a year as Defence Against The Dark Arts teacher, yet resigned when the school found out he was a werewolf. A lot of my closest friends teach at Hogwarts: Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley and I were inseparable, Hermione is currently teaching in Hogwarts as the Potions teacher (you’ll find the subject a lot more interesting than what I did).
I will keep in touch through post (you’ll get a surprise at breakfast no doubt when the post arrives), yet do not write things that would be useful to the enemy when intercepted. I do believe there is a connection between you and Tamesis so you must keep yourself safe, and well prepared for the future. Be careful, love Mam and Dad.’
Well that was a profusely blunt letter, wasn’t it? she thought bitterly. She dropped the letter onto the seat beside her and groaned, a headache was coming on. Never before in her life had she been so surprised, things that she had known all her life were wrong, and there were things she was to learn. ‘Be prepared’…that sounded as though she would have to fight someone. But who? She hadn’t even learnt magic as such before now, the first time she had even known about magic was a few weeks ago and she’d only began reading the books a couple of weeks before now. Be prepared. Whatever happened, she knew that she couldn’t do it alone.
The glass was cool and although there was nothing to be seen outside she rested her head on the glass letting the cold travel through her body like a cool drink. “Anything from the trolley?” called a frail woman outside the compartment, and Louise jumped up, never one to pass up on food. She took some off looking things from the trolley and placed three silver coins in the palm of the woman’s hand. Louise tucked into the food with a smile, at least magical food tasted nice. Since this girl before her hand told her most of her family history, she decided that half of the food she bought would be shared in half between them. “Here,” she said, putting the food upon the seat next to the girl, “I just want to thank you for helping me get to know myself a little better. That parchment? Well it was a letter from my Dad explaining a little more, he said that someone would have probably told me already and well I guess he was right wasn’t he? Though I probably don’t need to introduce myself, I’m Louise Potter.” She smiled at the girl and took a glance around. There was the girl trunk with a name attached. It read ‘Amy Weasley’. “Nice to meet you Amy, in my letter, my Dad mentioned something about Ron Weasley, it may just be a coincidence but I don’t suppose you know him do you?” she asked curiously.
Before waiting for an answer, Louise jumped up and quickly changed into her newly bought witch robes and took her wand out in her hand. She wanted to learn spells soon so she could catch up with everyone else, thinking that they would know loads and she’d be left at the bottom of the class. Well, one spell down, the next she had learnt was something called expelliarmus. It was meant to knock the wand out of someone’s hand, but she doubted it very much. However, she concentrated hard and held her wand steady in front of her “Expelliarmus!” she said clearly and with a great amount of force. Amy, who had been fiddling with her wand in her hand, was now fiddling with thin air as her wand flew out of her hand and onto the compartment floor. Louise immediately jumped onto the floor to fetch her wand for her, “I’m, err, sorry about that. Didn’t think it would work” she muttered, feeling a little foolish yet proud at her working spell. She began to think that perhaps the book that her father had made her buy was not by coincidence, but he had made her buy it to prepare her. This was what he meant by be prepared, to train and learn spells that would help her. Maybe she wouldn’t be bottom of the class after all.

Amy was flattered that the girl she had known for little then five minutes, had offered to share her food with her. Amy smiled and said “Thanks!” Straight after she had said this, she reached up to grab her bag from the overhead storage. She grabbed her bag and pulled out a set of black robes, freshly bought from Madam Malkins shop in Diagon Ally. She slipped on her robes and sat back on the seat opposite Louise, who had also just put on her new set of robes. They both sat down and quietly stared at each other for about five minutes. They could gradually feel the Hogwarts Express slowing down. Eventually it came to a halt at Hogsmeade station. The school prefects opened the doors and all the students filed out of the doors in an unorderly fashion. As Amy stood onto the platform she heard a voice shout “First Years this way!” Amys uncle Charlie was standing there, beckoning the first years towards a jet-black lake. “This is the black lake first years, now get into groups of three and each take a boat.” They did as instructed and as the last person stepped into a boat, they started sailing across the lake. A gallant castle looked down on them as they sailed across the lake, the chilling hair nipping at their cheeks. The boats stopped at a wooden dock and the students climbed out. They crowded around the red haired teacher as they made their way up to the giant castle that lay before them. A look of anxiety crossed Amy’s face as she looked up at the large wooden castle doors, looking up at how high they were made Amy dizzy and a sudden swirl of her stomach made Amy put her hand to her mouth quickly. A girl beside her asked if she was okay, Amy gave a little nod to signal she was fine. The girl smiled and turned to watch the doors slowly creak open. As the doors opened a tall, skinny women in amethyst robes approached the children.
“Welcome to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, I am Professor Eloena Signet, Your deputy headmistress and Defence against the Dark Arts teacher. You will follow me to the Great Hall were the sorting ceremony will commence. In this school there are four houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. While you are here your house will be like your family, all your rewards will earn points, whilst rule breaking will lose your house points. Now lets make our way to the great hall!”
The students followed the lady in purple down many corridors, which felt like a long winding maze to Amy. On her way to the great hall, Amy noticed a line of paintings. Each painting was in memoriam. On painting stood out to Amy as she looked at the frames moving occupants. It was a painting of a man and a woman. The man was pale, with brown straggly hair and eyes, which had a hollow, feel to them. The women had bubblegum pink hair, her nose seemed to change every few minutes, from things like pig snouts and duckbills. The man beside her gave a hearty looking laugh and put his arm around her shoulders. A broad smile came across the ladies face as her pig snout turned into a regular humans nose. Amy smiled as she looked down towards a gold plaque that lay on the frame under the portrait. She read it too her self.
Remus and Nymphadora Lupin
Suum Animus Est Magis Tunc Iustus A Memoria!
Then underneath it had the English translation: Their Bravery Is More Then Just A Memory!
As soon as Amy had finished the last word, she realised the group of first years were advancing towards the great hall. Amy was pondering on the portrait she had just seen, until the group reached another pair of gigantic wooden doors.
“These are the doors to the great hall first years, now during the sorting ceremony you will not talk. You will quietly move to your house table once the sorting hat has placed you in your chosen house.” The first years looked at each other, as they were lead into the great hall through the giant doors. Other school students stared at them as the walked between two long wooden tables. One decorated with red and gold, the other with yellow and black. They walked to a raised platform at the head of the hall. Another large table was placed on top. All the seats were occupied by adults, which Amy almost at once realised they were the teachers.Professor Signet climbed onto the raised platform and turned to face the many students now looking up at her. She cleared her throat as she began to speak. “Now when I call your name, you will come up here, I will place the sorting hat on your head, and you will be sorted into your houses! Ellen Clawson!” A small mouse haired girl appeared on the stage, she sat on a rickety old stool and the sorting hat was placed on her head. The sorting hat was an old, dusty witch or wizards hat. A small pat of a seam had come lose. Doesn’t look like much! Amy Thought to herself.
“Hmmm. Right. Ok. RAVENCLAW!” the Sorting hat shouted. Ellen jumped off the stool and ran to the long wooden table decorated in blue. Most of the group was gone by the time Professor Signet called out Amys name. “Amy Weasley!” Amy was too busy thinking about the line of portraits in the entrance hall that she didn’t hear the professor call out her name. “Amy Weasley!” Professor Signet called out again, this time with a much harsher tone. Amy snapped out of her daydream and ran up to the platform, she placed herself onto the stool and watched with awe as the sorting hat was placed onto her head.
“Well, well, well. It’s another Weasley, Most, Nay all of your family that I have known came to this here school, and I’ve sorted them! They were all put into the same house, and you show the same qualities as the rest of your family. Such a pity, for once I’d like to have sorted a member of your abnormally large family into a different house, maybe Slytherin. No I stick by my word, this means you will be a.. GRYFFINDOR!” A surge of relief filled Amys body as she made her way to sit on the red and gold decorated table. A warm welcome was given as she took place next to a boy with short blonde hair and freckles. He smiled and gave her a pat on the back. This was one of them few times Amy felt she had achieved something worthwhile. Won’t Mum and Dad be proud!Amy thought to herself as she turned to face a man who was standing on the raised platform. He was standing by what looked like a music stand. He was about to talk and Amy knew she should pay attention. _________________ * AmiiCate ;; |

Climbing into the little rowing boat, with Amy shortly following behind her, a third person climbed in. He looked just as frightened as every other first year, except for the few that were swaggering towards their boat and sitting down with such a cheeky grin, it was as though a charm had been put upon them. They had climbed into the boat adjacent to them, and Louise could hear them talking:
“Gryffindor? That’s what house Harry Potter was in when he was at school, why would I want to be in the same house as him?” one of them said, the rest began to snigger like little children, and Louise just turned away and focused her attention on the clear sky that was above her. The stars were plain to see, and were lighting the black lake in an eerie silver light. Now it perhaps wasn’t the lessons she needed to worry about, but perhaps the school life itself.
The castle itself loomed over her like a ghostly shadow, waiting for her to enter. Entering its mouth, she was overwhelmed by the sheer life and character of the castle; she had expected an old castle that was falling down, not this airy, welcoming one. Hanging to the back of the group, she admired the beautiful surroundings. At the side of some tall wooden doors (that lead to the great hall) there was a large golden plaque, impossible not to notice. Louise stopped for a moment and read, in a whisper;
“In here was where the dark lord fell
Fallen by something he thought he knew well:
Many a person fought and fell as a friend,
But Harry Potter fought for the end.”
She stood transfixed at her reflection in the plaque; Louise had never known all of this, yet in the wizarding world her father was practically a legend. Wrenching her gaze from the plaque, she realised that the rest of the first years were now a long way away from her and she quickly began moving, almost running to catch up with them. Luckily she had caught the speech made by the woman that was Eloena Signet, and had remained unnoticed by her for being so late to the little gathering.
After a few minutes-where everyone looked around at the now battered suits of armour (another plaque beside it said that they had taken part in the battle of Hogwarts some years ago) and the repaired walls which had been broken by giants if she had overheard correctly -they were taken inside of the Great Hall.
The atmosphere overwhelmed her, there was excited silence hanging over all five tables-two on the left of her and two on the right-and one great table straight ahead where the teachers of the school sat. As she walked slowly to join the back of the line now forming in front of a battered hat, a few students nudged each other and faintly she could hear her father’s name mentioned, and occasionally her mother’s. Ms Signet was now reading names out on the list that had materialised in her hand, and after what seemed like hours, Louise Potter was called out. Steadying her shaking hands, she walked up to the sorting hat and placed it onto her head and it immediately began to talk:
“Ah, Potter. I sorted your father a Gryffindor, although he would have done better as a Slytherin, and your Mother, she was a Ravenclaw, but had bravery to match any Gryffindor. You? Wit for Ravenclaw, but like your father you possess a quality that could only do great in Slytherin however your courage is no less than your father’s or mother’s. A tricky one you are Ms Potter, but there are two qualities you possess which sets you apart from two: bravery and chivalry. GRYFFINDOR!”
There was a great uproar from the Gryffindor table, and Louise, no longer shaking but now pleased that she had found out something about her parents, and learned that her father was in Gryffindor and her mother could have been placed there, she was proud of herself for matching their great footsteps.
After Amy had joined her at the table, the feast began and she tucked in eagerly. The food was gone in an hour, and a tall man at the front of the room stood at an elegant podium ready to begin his speech. She recognised the man, he had been over to their house before! He used to come over for dinner a few times a week during the holidays, but she had only known him as Teddy!
“Welcome all first years to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where you will begin your journey to becoming a great witch or wizard, and welcome back to all those who embarked on the journey and are ready to carry on with it yesterday. On a more sinister note, after last years tragic events, Mr Longbottom has replaced Ms Tier as the Herbology teacher, and security has been upped also for your own safety as many of you can remember what happened, and will never forget those you have lost.
Extra lessons of Defence Against the Dark Arts will be arranged for groups of people who wish to learn how to duel, to get your name put down on the list please talk to Ms Signet before the end of the day. On a slightly lighter note, Mr Finnigan the caretaker has asked me to remind you that Weasley Wizard Wheezes Fireworks are to be kept in common rooms for celebrations only, not for waking up that person you don’t like. That is all, thank you.” He said, pausing occasionally to let his words have an effect on the crowd. Extra defence against the dark arts lessons? Her fathers words from his letter jumped out at her, ‘Be prepared’. She would join. But first, Mr Lupins’ words had made her curious. What had happened last year? Louise turned to a third year beside her and tapped him lightly on the shoulder.
“What does Mr Lupin mean? About what happened last year?” she asked shyly, as the boy was a lot taller than she was.
“It isn’t something you should go around asking people, a lot of their friends died. I’ll tell you though. Tamesis Lestrange brought Deatheaters into the castle through force, and tried to massacre anyone that he knew was muggle born. He did it exactly twenty years after Harry Potter, as a sign that he will never forget it, killed he-who-must-not-be-named. Around fifty students were killed all together, and Ms Tier the Herbology teacher. No one can work out how he got in, some say it was a secret passageway, and the rest just think that he got in by force. All we know is that him and his Deatheaters were first spotted on the seventh floor.”
“Oh…thanks” was all Louise managed to say. She was stunned at what had happened in the castle.
Glancing up at the teacher’s table a second time, she noticed more than one person she recognised. Hermione, Ron and Neville had often come over, but her dad has always told her that they were work colleagues. One day she had been coming downstairs from bed, and had overheard them talking.
“On the seventh floor?”
“Isn’t that where the room is?”
“I thought the fire had destroyed it!”
“We’ve tried opening it, but it doesn’t work”
“I’ve told Teddy, but make sure you keep an eye on it.”
At the time, nothing had made sense to her, but now the first line lead her to believe that they had been talking about the attack at Hogwarts. But what room were they on about? Louise turned to Amy and explained what she had just found out and what she had overheard from last summer. After she had explained, Louise told her she was signing up for the extra Defence Against The Dark Arts lessons with Ms Signet, and jumping up from her seat she fought her way through the crowd towards Ms Signet. One the way she saw Hermione who flashed a smile at her. Louise returned it. “Ms Signet!” she was walking towards the door, so she ran to catch up. “I’d like to join the extra lessons please.”
“You’ve never had a normal lesson yet Potter.”
“I’d like to get a head start” she lied, but Signet seemed to believe it as she smiled and nodded.
On the way to the common room, she caught up with Amy. “Follow me” she muttered, but didn’t leave until they reached the portrait of the fat lady and found out the password. Louise ran along a corridor, up some stairs, and entered the seventh floor. All she knew was that the door could not be opened, so she walked through the corridor trying each door. All of them opened. After about an hour, they looked at their watches and found it was past their curfew. Cursing, they ran back to the portrait of the fat lady and muttered the password and stumbled through the portrait hole. Louise sat down by the fire, lost in thought. Who could she speak to? Hermione, Ron, Neville and Teddy all knew her father and mother, and he’d asked her to stay safe. Louise wasn’t sure, but trying to find out where Tamesis had entered the castle wasn’t the best idea. If they had checked all the doors, there must be a hidden one. Louise almost laughed at the idea, how could you hide a door? She had heard rumours of secret passageways-but she couldn’t see how they would work. How can there be secret passageways in a school? |

After what Louise had just told Amy, she was not quite sure how to react. I mean, how do you react when someone tells you there is a hidden door somewhere on the seventh floor that does not unlock? You would think that person was crazy right? Well in the wizarding world you cant be too sure, that is why Amy went with her natural instincts and believed the girl she met on the train a mere hour ago! After the feast in the great hall, the prefects led the first years to the tallest tower in the castle; this was where the Gryffindor common room was. Louise and Amy stayed long enough to hear what the password was before heading off to the seventh floor. To Amy this search was endless, there countless numbers of doors on the seventh floor, and she betted to herself that most if not all, would open. This was a school so most of them were used classrooms.
What seemed like hours later the pair returned to the common room without a scrap of luck. What was Louise searching for? Why did she want to find the room where Tamesis had entered? Did she just want to follow in her fathers’ footsteps and get eternal glory? Amy shook her head at that last horrible thought as she climbed into bed that night. All of those questions ran like circles all through the night. Amy got up in the morning after little sleep, black circles had appeared under her eyes and her skin was pale. Louise walked past giving her a strange glance. After everyone was ready for there first ever lesson at Hogwarts, Amy left the bedroom and climbed down the stairs to the living area of the common room. She found Louise waiting for her just before the portrait hole. They both climbed out and made there way to greenhouse three; there first ever lesson at Hogwarts was Herbology. As they approached the greenhouse Amy had a sudden thought. On the night of arrival at Hogwarts castle, she had noticed a door, not too big and not too small, just a quaint little wooden door next to the main stairs of the entrance hall.
There was a padlock on it wasn’t there?
Amy thought. But then she remembered what Louise had said about the seventh floor, and dismissed the thought immediately. Amy and Louise entered the greenhouse to be greeted by a tall, lanky man with floppy black hair. They realised this must be the Professor of Herbology; Neville Longbottom. Amy thought back to what her Uncle Ron had told her a few days before she travelled to Hogwarts.
My good friend Neville is the new Herbology professor there, you’ll really like him Amy!
She took her place next to Louise along a long plant pot, filled with some extraordinary plants of all shapes, sizes and colour.
“ Welcome to greenhouse three first years. I am Professor Longbottom and will hopefully be your Herbology teacher for your time at Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry. The plant box you see before you is filled with a selection of the magical plants you will be studying in your first year at this school. Plants include devils snare which you can see infront of this young Ravenclaw student,”
The student suddenly stiffened as if everyone’s stares bored into him like little electric laser beams. His face went pale and his pupils dilated.
“ Its okay young chap, no need to be nervous it won’t hurt you!” said Professor Longbottom with a slight chuckle. “Feel free to have a look at these marvellous creations but please do not touch, as you do not know which are deadly and which are safe!”
They say time flies when your having fun, in this case time sped past faster then a Thunderbolt Mark Sixty. By the time Amy and Louise had just began to discuss why Venomous Tentacular are so named, the bell gave out a high pitched ring signalling the end of their first lesson. As Professor Longbottom gave the okay to go, Amy and Louise rushed out to compare timetables. They both saw they had a free period, but for first years this meant study time in the library. Since they had only had one lesson at Hogwarts, they decided to discuss their theories about that secretive room on the seventh floor. By the time they had reached the library doors they had both decided to try and find out about the history of Hogwarts. So into the library they slowly walked, looking above each aisle to look for a clue as to what they were searching for. When no clue came about, Louise walked up to the librarian and asked where the books where about Hogwarts history. Once pointed in the right direction, towards the books the girls hastily headed.
Page upon page of useless information
Amy thought to herself as she flicked the pages in a fat, loosely bound book which looked fit to burst. Suddenly Amy stopped turning the pages and concentrated on one particular title, which stood out more then the others. “The Battle Of Hogwarts!” Amy read out quietly to Louise. “Do you think this is what we’ve been searching for?” When replied with a smirk and a certain nod of approval, Amy buried her nose in the book once more. _________________ * AmiiCate ;; |

‘Approximately nineteen years ago, the Battle of Hogwarts took place in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Ultimately, it was a war against good and evil, against he-who-must-not-be-named and his death eaters and ‘Dumbledore’s Army’ (a small club formed at the school to practice defensive magic-run by Harry Potter along with Ronald Weasley and Hermione. Other members include Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottom), other students from the castle and also the Order of the Phoenix. The battle involved giants and centaurs, with giants reducing parts of the castle to rubble.
Hogwarts was under the control of he-who-must-not-be-named, and Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley had disappeared and were not to be seen for a long time. When they surfaced again, they had arrived at the castle through what we now have knowledge of as the Room of Requirement-found on the seventh floor to anyone who would like to find it (the exact whereabouts and how to get to the Room of Requirement is unknown. No one has entered the Room of Requirement since the battle). The Battle of Hogwarts saw many people killed, wounded, and left with ongoing mental problems-however he-who-must-not-be-named was killed by non other than ‘The Chosen One’ Harry Potter…’
The chapter went on for ages and ages, but Louise had read all she needed to. Seventh Floor, room of requirement, her dad killed someone, Giants, the Chosen One and Harry Potter. Her dad’s name was plastered everywhere in the magical community, yet people in books had known more about her Dad than she had. Ronald Weasley. That was Amy’s Uncle! Louise knew it rang a bell somewhere, so Amy’s uncle and her dad had been best friends in school. In the book it mentioned Neville Longbottom too-Neville knew about the Room of Requirement, that was the room they had been talking about! But her Dad seemed to think that the room had been destroyed in a fire of some sort. Surely if it was a magic room that only appeared sometimes, it wouldn’t be destroyed by just fire? And if it had been destroyed, how had Tamesis entered the castle through it-everything added up to get that conclusion. There was no other way so many people could arrive on the Seventh Floor. Her and Amy had checked every corner of it, every room and they had even found passageways that led to the Entrance Hall and to various other floors, there was no way they could have arrived in the middle of the castle without anyone noticing.
A bell rang and there was all round hustle and bustle in the library as everyone fought their way through the crowds to make sure they got to their next lesson on time. For Louise and Amy, that lesson happened to be Defence Against The Dark Arts. Trailing slowly at the back of the crowd (they were a little behind because Louise had decided to borrow the book from the library as a little light information) they made their way to the first floor where the rest of the class were lined up. Turns out they had Defence Against the Dark Arts with the Slytherin house, from what she could tell they weren’t a pleasant bunch and there was a large rivalry between Gryffindor and Slytherin. Taking her place at the end of the line with Amy, she waited for their teacher to let them in. Her thoughts were answered as a surprisingly young woman walked out of the classroom. “Good morning Gryffindors and Slytherins, please come inside and take a seat.” She said, and stepped to the side to allow everyone to file into the classroom and grab the best seats-near the back. With Amy and Louise being at the end, they were seated quite close to the teacher as she came in and sat down. “I’m Ms Signet, your Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. I believe in preparing you for the worst-but not preparing you enough to enter the realms of evil. Today we will get straight into the lesson. Pair up, find a space-“ with this she cleared all the desks to the side and when everyone stood, the seats, “and repeat after me ‘Expelliarmus!” The whole class yelled it, their wands still in their pockets. I will show you what this spell does, may I have a volunteer?” No one went forward, and the nearest person to her was Louise. “OK Louise, stand in front of me with your wand out.” Before she knew what was happening, a jet of light was flying towards her and Louise automatically raised her own. The force of Ms Signet’s spell sent her flying across the room, and when she looked up Ms Signet was also lying on the floor without movement. The class was looking with shock at the pair of them, and as Louise got up so did Ms Signet. “Where did you learn that?” she asked Louise, her face to shocked to be angry.
“Ermm…I don’t know. I just saw a light coming towards me and I raised my wand. I don’t know what happened after that, I got blasted backwards and when I sat up you were lying down” she replied with an air of confusion in her voice.
“What you performed was the stunning charm. It was only strong enough to stun me for a minute but for a first year student that was incredible. Do you know any spells? Were you taught any at home?”
“No, I didn’t know about magic till about one month ago and I didn’t get my wand till a week before I came here. I haven’t learnt any.”
“What is your name?”
“Louise Potter.”
Murmurs followed, and Ms Signet nodded. “OK everyone, show’s over get back to work. Pair up, use the disarming charm and try to disarm your opponent.”
Automatically, Louise and Amy paired up and began. They counted to three, and raised their wands. Amy was quicker, and Louise felt a small jolt as her wand twitched violently in her hand. “Woah” Louise muttered. Next time, Louise was quicker and she yelled “Expelliarmus! ” at Amy. Nothing happened. “I guess I need more practice at that one” she said laughing. By the end of the lesson, Amy had send Louise’s wand flying across the other side of the room, but Louise had only managed to flip it out of Amy’s and let it land beside her.
Dinner time-Louise’s favourite time of day. Speeding towards the door to get a good seat at the Great Hall she was called back by Ms Signet along with Amy. “I remember you asking to join extra Defence Against the Dark Arts classes, I think that would be a wise idea. Amy, you have made more progress than any one in the class and Louise, you need to harness that strength you just showed from stunning me-all that power needs to be controlled. Our next meeting is on Friday night, in the Great Hall. It would be a very good idea to come as the two of you will benefit from it” Ms Signet ended and the two grinned at each other as they made their way to the Great Hall to begin eating. The feast was huge, as always, and they began to tuck in. After dinner their first lesson was Charms, something Louise didn’t know a lot about. They made their way there using a few secret passages they had already found and arrived first in the queue to enter. |
